| International Organ Festival | ||
The festival was founded in 1969. Its foundation and the successful course of all its years are connected with the name of the professor Antonín Schindler, president and dramatic adviser of the International Organ Festival Olomouc. A number of renowned artists from all over the world participated in the festival.
The organ was built by Michael Engler in 1740 – 1745. By the decision of the government, the original instrument was renovated and extended in 1959 – 1971. The organ bench may be used separately, but the whole re-constructed and extended instrument is also connected to a new five-manual bench, including the original and the newly added stops. The reconstruction was done by VARHANY RIEGER-KLOSS KRNOV company. |

| Dvořák´s Olomouc | ||
The international music festival Dvořák’s Olomouc arose by a transformation from the festival Olomouc Musical Spring, organised by Moravian Philharmonic already since 1958. The name of Antonín Dvořák is considerably connected with the musical history of the town. In 1888 – 1898, he often worked in Olomouc, co-operating with the music choir Žerotín and he even became its honorary member. He expressed his cordial relationship towards Olomouc musical enthusiasts not only by the dedication of the cantata directly to Žerotín, but also by the première of the master’s most important vocally instrumental works – Te Deum and Requiem, which had been performed in Olomouc for the first time in the continental Europe. Upon its foundation, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc resumed the tradition of Žerotín.
The festival program is oriented not only at Dvořák’s famous works, but also at other important Czech authors (Fibich, Foerster, Novák, Suk, Eben). |
