Dvořák´s Olomouc
The international music festival Dvořák’s Olomouc arose by a transformation from the festival Olomouc Musical Spring, organised by Moravian Philharmonic already since 1958.
The name of Antonín Dvořák is considerably connected with the musical history of the town. In 1888 – 1898, he often worked in Olomouc, co-operating with the music choir Žerotín and he even became its honorary member. He expressed his cordial relationship towards Olomouc musical enthusiasts not only by the dedication of the cantata directly to Žerotín, but also by the première of the master’s most important vocally instrumental works – Te Deum and Requiem, which had been performed in Olomouc for the first time in the continental Europe. Upon its foundation, Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc resumed the tradition of Žerotín.
The festival program is oriented not only at Dvořák’s famous works, but also at other important Czech authors (Fibich, Foerster, Novák, Suk, Eben).
