9. 4. 2024

Vila Primavesi, 18.00

This year, the music world commemorates a significant anniversary, the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Bedřich Smetana. The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc is of course joining the Year of Czech Music and, in addition to concerts, is organising a special discussion on 9 April at 6 pm in Villa Primavesi. The guests of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra's special discussion will be Pavel Kosatík, author of a new biography of the composer, and Sandra Bergmann, director of the Bedřich Smetana Museum.
The work offers a fresh perspective on Smetana's life and brings new reflections on some previously established views. Kosatík's work, based on thorough research of historical sources and a deep knowledge of the context of the time, promises to refresh the existing image of this musical master. During the evening it will be possible, among other things, to purchase the newly published monograph and have it signed by the author.
Sandra Bergmann will give the audience an overview of the museum's activities and its collections, including its most precious artefacts.
The discussion will be framed by a performance of a quartet consisting of MFO members, who will play the first two movements of Smetana's String Quartet No. 1 ̶0;From My Life”.
